About this service
No single office changes your name. The proof is built from three documents, and most institutions want to see all of them.
The usual route is an affidavit declaring your old name, your new name and the reason for the change, sworn before a notary; publication of the change in two newspapers, generally one English and one in the regional language; and publication in the Gazette of India or the relevant State Gazette.
The Gazette notification is what most institutions treat as conclusive. Passport offices, banks, insurers, schools and employers typically ask for the Gazette copy along with the affidavit and the newspaper cuttings. The procedure, fees and publishing authority differ depending on whether you apply to the central Gazette or a state one.
We draft the affidavit and the deed poll, format the notification the way the press and the Gazette accept it, arrange the newspaper publications and file the application with the correct enclosures. You are told what each stage costs before it begins, including the publication charges that are not ours.
